The best time to think about applying for a Fulbright U.S. Student Award is while you are already abroad: What kind of project might bring you back? Where might you line up the sort of affiliation that support a competitive application? What do you wish you had more time to absorb and enjoy? Come to a workshop on Wednesday, November 11, at either 4:30 or 5:30 in room 308 Honors, to work through some of the questions and issues you can begin addressing while you are abroad next semester. Those who are staying stateside in spring are also welcome.

Chancellor Jones Speaks at Croft Institute About Work in North Korea
University of Mississippi Chancellor Dan Jones spoke at the Croft Institute on October 26 about his experiences in North Korea. Chancellor Jones became interested in North Korea after working as a physician in South Korea for several years in the 1980's, and has visited the isolationist, communist country several times over the last fifteen years. Working with a non-governmental organization known as Global Resource Services, Chancellor Jones has developed partnerships with the principal medical school in Pyongyang, provided training and material aid, and hosted North Korean physicians visiting the U.S.
For Chancellor Jones, the relationships with the people he has come to know in North Korea are an important step towards reconciliation between peoples. In his talk, Jones recognized the moral difficulty of cooperating with an oppressive, authoritarian government, but he remained optimistic about the benefits of providing aid where it is needed most and cultivating relationships with people in a country with which the United States has major political disagreements.
