Croft Fall Visiting Speaker Series Continues this Monday, September 21
After the success of Dr. Chris Lamont's talk on the politics of compliance with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia held on Tuesday, September 8, the Croft Fall Visiting Speaker Series will continue with a lecture by University College Dublin Professor Alun Jones.
The lecture will be held on Monday, September 21 at 7 p.m. in the Joseph C. Bancroft Conference Room (Croft 107).
Professor Jones will discuss the narratives used by the European Union to conceptualize and justify its external activities and whether
these narratives help or hinder the EU as an actor on the international scene. His lecture will focus in particular on the conceptualization of the Mediterranean by the EU and its various member states.
Visiting Speaker Alun Jones to meet Croft Students on Monday at Noon
Just as Dr. Lamont did, Dr. Jones will be meeting with Croft students in the Croft Boardroom (Croft 305) to discuss his experience as a professor of geography working in Europe, latest developments in the field, and any other issues that may be of interest. Please let Dr. Schenck know if you are interested in attending!
East Asian Dinner at Dr. Gispen's House on Thursday, October 1
Following the great success of last year's Regional Concentration Dinners, we will be holding another series this fall. These dinners are a great opportunity for students to meet their classmates from different cohorts as well as spend time with Croft faculty and staff in a more relaxed and informal setting.
The first Regional Concentration Dinner will be held at Dr. Gispen's house on Thursday, October 1 at 6 p.m.
This dinner will be for all Croft Students and professors involved in the East Asian concentration. If you fall into this category, please R.S.V.P. to Brooke Worthy as soon as possible and let her know whether you will be able to attend. All Croft professors, regardless of regional or thematic concentration, are welcome at all dinners. Faculty, please R.s.v.p., so we have an accurate headcount.
On October 22 we will host the European concentration
On November 12 we will host the Latin American concentration
The dinners will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
