Call for Papers for Mississippi University for Women's Social Sciences Undergraduate Research Colloquium

Croft students, especially seniors writing their theses, should consider applying to present at the Mississippi University for Women's 2nd meeting of the Social Sciences Undergraduate Research Colloquium, which will be hosted by MUW's Department of Psychology and Family Studies on April 22, 2017. This event will provide a venue for undergraduate students in all social science disciplines to present current or proposed research and to receive feedback from research mentors and peers. Lunch will be provided for attendees.

March Croft Student of the Month Announced

The Croft Senate has elected Kara Chobot as March's Croft Student of the Month. Croft students submitted nominations for the student they felt had been working extremely hard in a class or had exhibited a positive attitude or had done great community service work.

Croft Advising to Begin on March 1

The Croft Institute will begin formal advising on Wednesday, March 1, and continue until Friday, March 31.  Dr. Schenck will send out an e-mail to all current students, including those who are abroad,  explaining the advising procedure and informing them who their advisor is this semester. Visit the Croft website for more details about the advising procedure, and, while you're there, look over the page outlining the major year-by-year. Students can see which courses will count for the international major by using the course selection tool, which will be updated with courses for fall 2017 by February 28.

Croft Instructional Assistant Professor of Sociology Miguel Centellas gave an interview on Bolivian politics for the "Understanding Latin American Politics" podcast by Greg Weeks (University of North Carolina Charlotte).  The podcast serves as a companion for the textbook of the same name.   Dr. Centellas's interview is episode 18.

The first issue of the University of Mississippi Undergraduate Research Journal (UMURJ) was published at the end of the last academic year.  Founded by students for students, UMURJ is a yearly peer-reviewed publication of research articles written by the University’s undergraduate students from all disciplines.  Croft senior Alex Martin is the managing editor and sophomore John Chappell is the social sciences editor.  The deadline each year is in April, so it is definitely appropriate to submit a condensed version of your senior thesis.  Visit the UMURJ website for more information and to submit an article

The University of Mississippi New service released an article about the 2016-2017 Croft scholarship recipients.  They included eight freshmen, Emma Rice, Summer Caraway, Jessica Flynn, Olivia George, Kylie Bring, Christina Pendergrast, Joey Baker,  and one sophomore, Lauren Newman.  Lauren is the recipient of the Rose Bui Academic Excellence Scholarship.
