Croft Visiting Speaker: Understanding the War in Ukraine

Tuesday, April 7, 2015- 7 p.m. - The Joseph C. Bancroft Conference Room (Croft 107) - Prof. William Risch, Georgia College

In light of the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, our speaker series will feature Prof. William Risch of Georgia College, a historian who personally witnessed the Euromaidan protests in Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Donetsk in 2013-2014, volunteered for the Ukraine Crisis Media center in the summer of 2014, and served as an elections monitor during Ukraine's presidential elections last May and during its parliamentary elections last October.  Prof. Risch will speak on Tuesday, April 7.

William Jay Risch is an Associate Professor of History at Georgia College in Milledgeville, Georgia. His book, The Ukrainian West: Culture and the Fate of Empire in Soviet Lviv, was published by Harvard University Press in 2011.  He edited a collection of essays, Youth and Rock in the Soviet Bloc: Youth Cultures, Music, and the State in Russia and Eastern Europe, which was published by Lexington Books this year.  He is currently working on a book describing his involvement with the Euromaidan protests in Ukraine.
