Croft Visiting Speaker: Central Asia and the Ascendance of Nationalism

Friday, February 26, 2016 - 12 noon - The Joseph C. Bancroft Conference Room (Croft 107)

On Friday, February 26, Dr. Russell Zanca, professor of anthropology at Northeastern Illinois University, will give a lecture about post-Soviet nationalism in Central Asia.  The event will take place at 12 noon in Croft 107.  Dr. Zanca will speak about the rise of nationalism in Central Asia after the communist collapse and its connection to regional chauvinism and the lack of democratic development.  He will use his photos and media imagery to support his thesis that Central Asian nationalism continues aspects of Soviet policies while bolstering the idea of national identity through the office of the supreme leader.  Lunch will be served, so be sure to attend!
