Job Opportunity: Manager, Business Advisory Services; The US-China Business Council

The US-China Business Council (USCBC) seeks a qualified individual to join the organization’s Business Advisory Services department (BAS) in Washington, DC. BAS is the information and advisory arm of USCBC and works closely with USCBC member companies on a wide range of China business and policy issues.

Founded in 1973, USCBC is a private, nonprofit, nonpartisan, member-supported organization and the leading organization of US companies engaged in business with the People's Republic of China. Through close collaboration among offices in Washington, Beijing, and Shanghai, USCBC provides extensive China-focused information and advisory services, targeted advocacy on business issues, and an array of programs and events to 200 US corporations operating in the United States, China, and around the world.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage sector- and issue-specific portfolios, including actively monitoring and analyzing new business and regulatory developments; building contacts with government, industry, and other stakeholders; and coordinating related information and advocacy efforts
  • Research, analyze, write, and speak on China-related business, economic, and trade topics with member companies, government officials, and other stakeholders, including work with Chinese-language resources
  • Develop and author communications on top issues of concern to USCBC members, including articles in USCBC publications
  • Plan and participate in USCBC events, including conferences, roundtable programs and business briefings
  • Proactively assist with member recruitment activities as well as retention of existing members
  • Assist Senior Vice President and BAS Director in developing and implementing advocacy positions and strategies on behalf of USCBC members
  • Work with colleagues to manage BAS’s intern program, including hiring and daily supervision
  • Handle other administrative and planning responsibilities as assigned by the BAS director

Qualifications:

  • Proven research, writing and analytical skills applied to China and/or business-related issues
  • Strong China background a must, with at least two years of experience working in a China business-related capacity or an equivalent combination (such as a China-related graduate degree or a longer period of time working on China non-business issues). Advanced proficiency in Mandarin Chinese preferred (particularly reading).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, initiative and strong interpersonal skills
  • US permanent work authorization required (US citizenship or Green Card)
  • Familiarity with Washington, DC policy climate preferred
  • Previous experience working with and serving companies or clients preferred
