Summer of Immersion in Morocco

Excited to learn and live in a region where her chosen language was spoken, Croft junior Isabel Spafford spent her summer in Morocco for an immersive 10 weeks of language and culture studies. Partially funded by the UM Arabic Language Flagship program, Isabel took this opportunity to discover beyond the classroom and get a feel for the intensive Arabic capstone year at the end of her studies.

While taking language courses and living with a host family, Isabel used her study free time to engage with the cultural around her, regularly hanging out at coffee shops, shopping at the local markets, and going on excursions with her class in the city. She was able to become more familiar with the language, customs, and cuisine of Morocco.
