ABOUT THE CROFT INSTITUTE FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDIES

The Croft Institute administers the undergraduate program in International Studies at the University of Mississippi.  Fully supported by the Joseph C. Bancroft Charitable and Educational Fund, the Croft Institute accepts a select group of high-achieving college freshmen directly from high school and sophomores who meet the Institute's admission standards.  Croft also regularly hosts visiting speakers on topics relevant to international affairs and provides continuing-education opportunities for K-12 teachers.  The Croft Institute was founded in 1997 and opened its doors in 1998.

International Studies is a demanding, interdisciplinary major in the College of Liberal Arts that offers small classes and individual attention to its students.  Croft's rigorous academic program also requires intensive foreign language training and study abroad for one or two semesters.  Current areas of regional concentration include East Asia, Europe, and Latin America.  Thematic concentrations are Global Economics and Business, International Governance and Politics, and Social and Cultural Identity.  A majority of Croft students are in the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College, where International Studies is the single largest major.

The B.A. in International Studies can lead to careers in law, international business, journalism, education and research, or employment in government agencies specializing in intelligence and diplomacy.  Other career opportunities include  government and defense contractors, international organizations, and non-governmental organizations specializing in foreign aid, international economic development, environmental protection, and human rights.
