Croft Institute Visiting Speaker: Dr. Todd Cleveland 

Following the Ball: African Soccer Players, Labor Strategies and Emigration across the Portuguese Colonial Empire, 1949-75

Monday, April 24 - 7 p.m. - The Joseph C. Bancroft Conference Room (Croft 107) 

Todd Cleveland, Assistant Professor of History at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas, will speak about the experiences of soccer players from Portugal’s African colonies who came to Europe to further their athletic careers from the 1940’s until the end of Portuguese colonial rule in 1975.

Cleveland holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in history from the University of New Hampshire.  He earned a doctorate in African history from the University of Minnesota.

Croft lectures are free and open to the public.
